Chelsea Butler is a Dietetics student at Ball State University, and enrolled in an introductory psychology course in the summer of 2010. The course includes two projects that allow the student to choose their own topics. Chelsea, a woman of many interests, decided to do a website on serial killers. Her interest in serial killers was realized at the age of fourteen, when she began reading true-crime books. A fan of horror films and gore, Chelsea enjoyed reading about the real people that films and literature were often inspired by, finding the real crimes to be much scarier because they were real.
Dr. Eric Hickey, a professor at California State University and the Director of the Center for Forensic Studies at Alliant International University. Dr. Hickey has considerable field experience working with the criminally insane, psychopaths, sex offenders and other criminals. Assembling the most extensive database on demography of serial murder, Hickey found these statistics (Hickey, 2010):
